BHaving almost always struggled with my weight myself, I have often asked that question! It should be simple shouldn’t it? We do the math – calories in – calories out – simple! Or is it?

We all know that trying to lose weight is one of the hardest things to do? Why? Because we can’t just stop eating, can we? If we could, then it would be relatively easy – but, we need our food and water to survive. Sometimes I feel it would be easier to stop smoking or drinking alcohol because once we stop that habit, we never really HAVE to do it again!

So, what’s the answer to losing weight and “maintaining” the weight?

Having seen hundreds of clients in my two clinics (London and Berkshire) for weight loss/weight management, I have come to the conclusion that if we can reset the subconscious mind to understand that although we love our food and would love to eat chocolate, tubs of Haagen Daaz, fish and chips from the fish shop, lovely Thai green curries made with coconut cream and sticky rice etc etc…on a very regular basis – we can’t! We must “moderate” what we eat.

My old dad had a saying “Everything in moderation love, if you do that you can’t go wrong!” That’s true isn’t it? but- and here is the big BUT! (did you like the pun?) learning to moderate our diet is one of THE hardest things to do. We can say to ourselves “Elaine, you can have fish and chips tonight, but you won’t be able to have them for at least another month!” Well, that sounds ok doesn’t it? However, after we’ve had the fish and chips, we then want a nice gooey cake or ice cream, so we say to ourselves” Oh well I’ve mucked up todays diet already – so I suppose a few more calories won’t hurt!” and this is how we go on – so we NEVER REALLY do eat in “moderation” do we?

 I can’t count the times I have heard clients say to me “Elaine, I eat REALLY healthily during the day but when it comes to the evening, I just cannot stop eating all the wrong things!” Can you relate to this? I know I can!

So how does hypnosis help the person who is desperate to reduce their weight and to help them to keep it off?

When I ask my clients WHY they want to lose weight, most people say they want to be able to wear nice clothes, fit into the aircraft seat without having to ask for an extension seatbelt, or perhaps go on holiday and wear that “itsbitsyteenyweenyyellowpolkadotbikini”?

But, how may people say to me “Elaine, I’m really worried about my health”. The truthful answer? Hardly any! This is the main reason I personally, keep my weight down – believe me – I could easily be 20 stones plus (I adore food and all the wrong stuff!) But I know I have high blood pressure, a little bit of arthritis, and some late onset asthma. All these things are aggravated by surplus weight. The thought of having a stroke and having to be looked after by my children fills me with fear. The thought of having a heart attack and dying “just like that” fills me with fear, and the thought of knowing that I DID know how to control my eating but not doing it and then something dreadful happening to me, fills me with despair! So, I CHOOSE to eat healthily 80% of the time. I choose to exercise three times a week. Do I like eating salad? Not really – but I make it as pleasant as it can be! Do I LIKE going to the gym? Not really but again I motivate myself (self – hypnosis techniques) and I do it.

I usually feel great as I walk out of that gym! I DID it! I spent an hour burning around four hundred calories. I may ache a bit the next day, but I love that feeling because that tells me I am using muscles that NEED working! Once you make up your mind that you want to be as healthy as you possibly can be, that you DON’T want to die before your time, and you want to look as good as you can as a bonus to all this, its relatively easy. Yes, you will still have a few cravings for the odd chocolate, and no one says you CAN’T have the odd chocolate – you just can’t eat it continually!

So, what does a hypnotherapy session for weight loss and maintenance look like?
